The EPRI "Editorial Style Guide," together with the Company's "Graphic Standards Guide," provides information for building a strong corporate identity in EPRI publications. Providing lists of frequently used terms, EPRI software, and chemical elements, plus examples of word usage, the style guide can help authors both develop text efficiently and economically and brand EPRI as an integrated, global science and technology company.

The "Editorial Style Guide" updates information presented in the "Three-Step Guide" to the "Electronic Publishing of EPRI Technical Reports." Used in conjunction with the templates developed to prepare EPRI reports and the "Graphic Standards Guide," it can help ensure visual and verbal consistency in EPRI's technical reports and other publications. The style guide and templates for preparing reports are available on-line (www.epri.com/epritemplate/). The "Graphic Standards Guide" can also be accessed on line (www.epri.com/design). Both publications are available in print.

To provide assistance in developing text that promotes a consistent EPRI style and presents the organization as an integrated, global science and technology company.

EPRI Technical Publishing staff and contractors consulted with groups throughout the Company to update the word list and add phrasing to the section on word usage that reflects recent organizational changes.

Chapter 1 of the "Editorial Style Guide" provides a list of terms frequently used in describing EPRI research. It addresses hyphenation issues and includes commonly used acronyms. Chapter 2 presents a list of EPRI software. Chapter 3 addresses such issues as capitalization, compound words numbers and equations, and bibliographical information. This chapter also provides information for incorporating the System of International Units into EPRI documents. Chapter 5 presents a list of chemical elements and their symbols.

EPRI Perspective

When any EPRI product, target, market segment, or solution is sold, EPRI is being sold. To ensure effective branding, it is important that all communication products be designed and written with a common look and feel. The "Editorial Style Guide" (TR-111039) and "The Graphic Standards Guide" (BR-110883) provide information for authors and designers to support this effort.
