Abstract

The Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) has developed a new energy-economy model of the United States under the PRISM 2.0 project called the U.S. Regional Economy, Greenhouse Gas, and Energy (US-REGEN) Model. The model combines a detailed dispatch and capacity expansion model of the United States electric sector with a high-level dynamic computable general equilibrium (CGE) model of the United States economy. This report describes the model, the methodology and theory that underlie it, and the construction of the associated datasets that inform the model. An initial draft of this documentation was completed in the summer of 2012 and underwent a review process by external experts and EPRI staff and members. Comments received from that review were incorporated into this version of the model and the associated documentation. This 2014 version of the documentation will be updated in the future to keep current with US-REGEN model enhancements and improvements.
