This report provides an assessment of the cost for future gas pipeline infrastructure to support the power industry, focusing on the cost for natural gas infrastructure between now and 2025. The report is part of a two-part series that examines the costs of both natural gas pipelines and CO2 pipelines that will be required to support new gas-fired units and future carbon capture and sequestration units, respectively. This report focuses on the cost of natural gas pipelines between 2012 and 2025. Its companion report provides an assessment of the existing CO2 pipeline infrastructure and planned expansions between now and 2025.

This report breaks the cost for natural gas infrastructure into two broad categories, namely (1) the cost of the lateral from the new power plant to the appropriate major pipeline and (2) the cost of pipeline capacity on the major pipeline providing gas supplies to the lateral interconnect. This two-prong assessment was undertaken for each of the 14 regions used in the EPRI US-REGEN model.
